Uzbekistan Photography Workshop
Join us for a 12-day adventure in Uzbekistan!
At night, the moon lights up the tops of the minarets, the domes of the mosques and the madrasahs in the cities of the Silk Road. In Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand, you will be immersed into the tale “Thousand and One Nights”, a journey between light and shadow.
In Uzbekistan, you will have the impression of traveling through time, from city to city, through steppes and deserts like the caravans of the ancient Silk Road.
Capture the architectural marvels at the best times of the day, and document the daily life of people in amazing locations. Deep dive into the culture and discover the incredible warmth of the Uzbek people.

Dream a Little…
Here’s what we’ll see on our 12-Day Uzbekistan Workshop
Day 1: Arrival in Tashkent
As soon as you arrive, our team will take care of everything and make sure you settle in comfortably at your hotel. Then, we’ll all meet up for a delicious dinner and start getting to know each other. Can’t wait to finally meet everyone in person and kick off this amazing journey together!
Day 2: Tashkent
We’re kicking it off with a visit to the awe-inspiring Chorsu Market in the morning, followed by an exclusive tour of the Tashkent Underground/Metro, which was off limits to photographers until 2019. And as if that wasn’t enough, we’ll wrap up our day at the stunning Khasti Imam complex during the golden hours.
Day 3: Tashkent – Khiva
Today we’ll take a quick early flight to the ancient city of Khiva, entrenched behind its high walls. Once a feared slave trading hub, the inner city has been lost in time, with little changing over the last century. We’ll photograph the architectural wonders of this living “museum” during the beautiful afternoon light, the sunset and the blue hour. We will also introduce you to street photography, empowering you to see the city in an entirely different way.
Day 4: Khiva
Today we’ll delve deeper into the ancient city. Starting from sunrise, we’ll discover more architectural beauties and wind our way through the narrow streets, seeing the city come to life through its people. In the afternoon, we will also have the opportunity to photograph local artisans at work before enjoying the afternoon light, sunset and blue hour in a different location.
Day 5: Khiva – Bukhara
Post breakfast, hop on the new train or cruise in a car through the desert towards the sacred city of Bukhara in central Uzbekistan. Covering 475 km, the journey takes 6 hours by train or 8 hours by car. Upon arrival, unwind and capture the stunning sunset views from a rooftop, soaking in the picturesque charm of the city.
Day 6: Bukhara and its countryside
We’re starting off early with a visit to an animal market, then heading to a charming village outside Bukhara to immerse ourselves in the daily life of a local family. From capturing their routine on camera to savoring warm, freshly baked bread for lunch, every moment promises to be special. Get ready to feel the true essence of Uzbek hospitality as we share this intimate experience. As the day winds down, we’ll bask in the golden lights and blue hues of the Poi Kalon area!
Day 7: Bukhara and its countryside
Today, after a delicious breakfast, we’re going to meet local artisans, explore the bazaar in town, and visit more talented craftsmen in the countryside near Bukhara in the afternoon. I’m looking forward to experiencing their hospitality and learning more about their artistry with you.
.
Day 8: Bukhara – Nurata – Uzbek desert
We’ll kick things off with a picturesque morning stroll through the charming streets of Bukhara, capturing the beauty of the morning light and playing with shadows around Ploi Kalon and Ulugbeb. After a delicious breakfast, our next stop is Nurata, where we’ll immerse ourselves in the rich culture of the Kazakh people and explore a village of former nomads.
Day 9: Nurata – Samarkand
I can’t wait to start our day in Samarkand! After breakfast, we’ll be hitting the road and heading straight there. The thought of doing a photo review in the afternoon and then exploring Sha-I-Zinda and the iconic Registan square later on has me feeling so excited and eager for all the adventures that await us. Let’s go!
Day 10: Samarkand
Today we head out early to photograph the Registan square. Before our departure to Tashkent in the late afternoon, we will also make sure we don’t miss the beautiful Gur-i Amir, where we can see a replicate of Amir Timur Tomb.
Day 11: Kupkari
One of the highlights is always keeping a day open for the unexpected… I’m especially excited to witness the traditional nomad game of “kupkari” where horse-mounted players try to score goals with a goat or calf carcass. It’s going to be a memorable experience, especially since we’ll be there for the last Kupkari of the season. Get ready to become a photographer on a mission!
Day 12: Departure
Depart day twelve.

Meaningful Interactions with Local People
Expect the Unexpected
Our itineraries are fun and flexible, and flow naturally - each of our photography adventures is unique, with spontaneous encounters and varying light conditions creating different opportunities at every turn.
Small Group Experience
The largest tours we run are for groups of six. With one experienced professional photographer as tour leader, this ensures that each of our participants will get plenty of individual, hands-on time with the instructor. It also means that we can travel in a less conspicuous manner, blending into our environment and not overwhelming local people during spontaneous encounters.
Responsible Travel
We are committed to responsible travel in every country we visit, ensuring that all of our tours are respectful of and give back to the communities we visit. We have taken steps to ensure our tours cause as little environmental impact as possible, and continually strive for new ways to leave fewer lasting footprints in all of our host countries. We use local drivers on all of our excursions, and we take care to educate our tour participants of the ethics of travel photography. We advocate for responsible volunteering and tourism. The participants that join our tours come away not only with some amazing memories and photos, but also with a better understanding of how they can make a positive impact in their future trips.
